Dirty Barry - Cannes Lions
EXPERIENTIAL
Our real life wakeboard controller and board put even the most seasoned gamer to the test
THE Brief
We got to make a game for the 2016 edition of Cannes Lions, by invitation of Clean Channel!
Dirty Barry, the protagonist of the fun-loving game with a twist and a few turns, is a washed up private detective who chases after a daredevil thief.
Our Approach
Taking inspiration from the goofy vibe of the Back to the Future films and combining that with the visuals of a Dick Tracy type comicstrip, we created an experience that was action-packed with crazy jumps, awesome tricks, explosions and a few hungry sharks. Our real life wakeboard controller and board put even the most seasoned gamer to the test, without putting them into too much danger - only some of the gamers fell off halfway through their stunts.
Shout out to Kostas who killed it with an astounding 278.150 points!
It's impossible to kill a legend! After Cannes Lions, Barry decided to wakeboard upstream towards London and is now touring the capital bringing endless joy to anyone fortunate enough to play this groundbreaking game.
How did we do it
Our fully interactive, custom built wakeboard rotated completely and had 4 touch points, allowing for complex interactions within the game. We truly enjoyed making the physical ramp adding specifics such as arcade style buttons, chroma keying and a few wires connecting it all.
Working with an illustration artist, we delivered everything from character design to animation and a full game design, developed in Unity.
Knowing how competitive our players would be, we deployed a full online post-event activation that included a microsite with Leaderboards and a custom generated YouTube video for each and every participant - that was also streamed from the giant Le Grand screen in Cannes.
