Alex was born in Leyland, a small town in Lancashire and his strong background in graphic design is due to having studied Art and Design at college and Graphic Design at degree level. He went on to University to study Games Design, however he realised that he’d be terrible at designing games and instead discovered UI Design - the perfect fusion of what he loves - video games and graphic design. That’s when he specialized in UI Design for Video games and his work caught the attention of a little company called Sony PlayStation! With their support he did a Masters in UI design for Stereoscopic 3D and eventually landed his first job on the development team for PlayStation VR, where he worked on the UI for virtual reality. After 5 years, he felt creatively stagnant and wanted to create the cool things he was seeing and using on a daily basis, so Alex took a year off to work on his portfolio, travel and rediscover who he was a designer. That’s when he stumbled onto a Koffeecup job advert on LinkedIn and saw that our work revolves around AR, VR, mobile and web - he didn’t hesitate to apply.

The transition from a massive company to a small team of 30 people allowed Alex to have a voice - no matter your role, at Koffeecup we listen and welcome to your ideas and opinions. He also likes the variety of the projects we throw his way - one minute he’s designing an app for the world’s largest paper plane competition, the next he’s creating a collaborative VR experience to be shown in front of thousands of spectators. One thing is for sure, there’s never a quiet day at our offices!

When he gets home, Alex relaxes by playing on his PlayStation - he’s an Overwatch fan - or sitting back to watch a good Netflix series. Ideally both with pizza.
